It’s not what you think! Hope’s complaints come from a good place, really. So often, complaining has a negative connotation but with Hope, we explore the derivation of the outward expression which undoubtedly, turns the whole thing on its head! Host: Shantell Thomas Featured Contributor: Hope Lights Contributors: Renell McKinnon and Sheila Gardner com·plain·ing /kəmˈplāniNG/ noun the expression of dissatisfaction or annoyance about something BOOK EXCERPT Starting with a question, much like a teacher might, I invite you to reflect: How often do you catch yourself complaining each day? If it's more often than you'd like to admit, you're not alone. Yet, my goal is to redirect these impulses into something more productive and spiritually nourishing. Host: Shantell Thomas Featured Contributor: Teki Best Contributors: Hope Lights, Renell McKinnon In·ner child /ˈinərˌCHīld/ noun a person's supposed original or true self, especially when concealed by childhood experiences BOOK EXCERPT During Lent, instead of the traditional practice of giving something up, I chose to focus on healing—a personal repair project of sorts. The subject of this project was my inner child, who had been quietly calling out to me during moments of stillness. My approach to reconnect with the younger me involved daily conversations, powered by affirmations. As a humorous twist and a minor inconvenience to my husband, I scribbled these affirmations on our bathroom mirror. Each morning, I recited seven affirmations. Winning over Worry We all do it, but how well and in what ways do we hide it. Renell candidly talks about her own version of hiding and listening to her reveal, made the other girlfriends realize, we have some unique techniques of our own for managing worry. Host: Shantell Thomas Featured Contributor: Renell McKinnon Contributors: Teki Best and Hope Lights wor·ry /ˈwərē/ verb give way to anxiety or unease; allow one's mind to dwell on difficulty or troubles. BOOK EXCERPT I worry about everything. I cover it really well using my coping mechanisms among these strategies, immersing myself in scriptural passages about worry, which has proven beneficial. It helps until there’s something new to worry about.
