“What we try to de-emphasize by pretending to ignore, we actually focus on by avoidance. If our intention is to focus attention away from the genitals and our sexuality, then we are achieving exactly the opposite by demanding they be covered up and denounced.” —Dennis Craig Smith, Naked Fear “Anyway, because teenagers are the way they are, all we’re really doing by shielding them from nudity is allowing their entire education about the normal range of human anatomy to be dictated by the material they seek out on their own — which is to say, by porn. Needless to say, this is a bad way for kids to form a factually accurate understanding of what normal naked bodies look like, never mind what it teaches them about sex. But it also reinforces the notion that the two can’t ever be separated.” —Kat Rosenfield, https://unherd.com/2023/04/the-case-for-getting-naked/

“It is a psychological fact that an interest out of all proportion becomes attached to any part of the body that is perpetually concealed, and we react to this with prurient curiosity. Concealing the body invariably stimulates such curiosity and gives it life. Attitudes on nudity in America range from one extreme to the other and even within the same community conflicting standards exist. Modesty is subject to widely different interpretations. For example, consider the reaction of a lady surprised in her bath by a strange man. In China, she hides her feet. In Laos, she covers her breasts. In Samoa, she conceals her navel. In Sumatra, she shields her knees. In Arabia, she turns her face away. Modesty, then, is in the mind of the individual, or does the part of the mores of a society. Nudists point out that there is nothing immodest or indecent about the human body; there are only people who think immodest or indecent thoughts.” —The Raw Ones

“The human body is not obscene, despite wha t the witch doctors would have you believe, and nothing written or pictured about the human body is obscene except as we elect to think it so.” —Lyle Stewart “When people teach that the human body is dirty or obscene, it creates fertile ground for pornography. This is why porn addiction is so strong in our society, even among Christians. Our culture is inundated with a sexualized view of the body. I’m sorry to say that the church has been a key player in spreading that idea.” -David L. Hatton “Our bodies were created “very good”, not dirty or obscene, even in a “naked and unashamed” state.” -Phillip Oak, Surprised into Freedom ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C7T7WVGL?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share )
