Conversations about life How did we get here, where are we going and how do we stay present through the journey… Join me and marinate in the mystery I consider myself a story catcher and a storyteller, constantly oscillating between a craving for understanding and relaxing into being. “All of our experiences fuse into our personality. Everything that ever happened to us is an ingredient.” Malcolm X How did we get here, where are we going and how do we stay present through the journey. Join me and marinate in the mystery. I consider myself a story catcher and a storyteller, constantly oscillating between a craving for understanding and relaxing into being Part of the inspiration for this project was to give myself a chance to meet and reconnect with those who have, and continue to, shape and inspire my experience along the way of this thing we call life. From Washington state to Virgina, Vermont and California then Toronto, I have befriended reiki healers, CIO’s of major endowments, photographers and former heroin addicts. My life has taken me many places and allowed me to cross paths and connect with people of varying life experiences. My hope is that through sharing parts of my story and those of my guests, people can see that we are more similar than we are different and maybe just maybe spread some more love, kindness and understanding through the air waves “Life doesn't happen to you, it happens for you. I don't really know if that is true, I'm just making a conscious choice to perceive challenges as something beneficial so that I can deal with them in the most productive way." Jim Carey Things we might talk about, psychology, philosophy, trauma, therapy, science, spirituality, art, addiction, mental health, life, death, all of it. I hope to use this space for us to learn and get curious Rules of engagement, in an attempt to not add self induced stress I will not have a set schedule for when episodes come out, I will also not be aiming for a particular length. Some episodes may be 20 minutes, others 2 hours. My intention is that this project will be like an organism that will grow, shift and take form as time goes on. I will strive to provide unedited episodes, partially as a way to save myself time and energy but also to show an authentic version of what comes forth. I will introduce each guest with how we met and what inspired me to invite them to the podcast. I will then ask each of them the same 11 questions, if they want to skip one we shall, because consent is crucial. Some of my guests may have vastly different values and perspectives than I, I believe that through engaging with people who hold different opinions and views than ours we can learn to create a more holistic view of the world and sometimes learn more about ourselves and our own values in the process. Things to keep in mind while listening: What works for me and my guests might not work for you What works for you might not work for me or my guests This podcast is separate from my work as a therapist in the mental health field. However, it is part of my mission to learn, create connection and heal through sharing stories and holding space for the human experience. At Fairbank & Friends we are learning through the past, creating stories of meaning, respecting the differences of all beings, propelling ourselves consciously into the future and striving for presence each step of the way, we hope you enjoy dancing in the chaos of life.
Dr. Shane Alborz is a chiropractor with a practice in the Los Ángeles area. His commitment and passion towards helping people heal is both inspiring and infectious! We met while doing our undergraduate studies at Santa Clara University in California many years ago, when we were both definitely very different versions of ourselves. Recording this episode was particularly special for me for a couple of reasons:

First, we had not seen each other in a decade. Secondly, I had been watching him thrive from the side lines of social media for years and was looking forward to hearing more! My perception of self was not the best during my SCU years, so I was a bit nervous about this meeting.

To say seeing Dr. Shane felt like a warm ray of sunlight would be an understatement, his warmth, kindness and knowledge come through his presence and in this conversation. I felt this conversation could have gone on for hours more. I hope y’all enjoy it as much as I did. If you are in need of chiropractic care and are in the LA area give him a shout!

https://www.shapechiropractic.com

https://instagram.com/drshanedc?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

Joe was my first boyfriend, we met in middle school and bonded while I was supporting his grade in their Shakespeare production. Fast forward a few years we each found ourselves living in different states at respective reform schools. The years after passing in a blur filled with substance use, loss, healing and transformation. 21 years later we are still connected sharing our stories. We go deep into addiction, the troubled teen industry, music, meditation and more in this conversation. Thank you so much for your willingness to be open with me! #BreakingCodeSilence
