Everyone has faith. But what does faith mean?

For the Christian, faith is a gift from God, and, being a gift from God, faith has some characteristics.

Faith is assurance that what we hope for will come to pass. Assurance is not a subjective feeling but an objective reality rooted in the unchangeable nature of God. His promises are what we hope in; His promises are concrete realities in Jesus.

Faith is conviction. We have evidence for our faith: the life, death, resurrection, and current work of Jesus. We find this evidence when we open our Bibles and see what God has done in our life.

Faith is acknowledging that God is creator. Ideas have consequences. Your view of the origins of humanity shape how you view fellow human beings. Creation also shapes salvation and new creation.

If you would like more information on the ministry of Fairlea Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church please visit https://arpchurchfairlea.org.

God calls us to persevere in faithfulness. We are to remember His faithfulness as we pursue faithfulness to Him and the holiness He has called us to. Among the tools He gives us to help in our perseverance we find the warnings and encouragements of the Scriptures.

The author of Hebrews warns against apostasy. We must always keep the authors words and context in mind as we read these warnings, otherwise the true Christian can get discouraged with their struggle with sin. The author warns against compromising or rejecting the Truth of the Gospel; he warns against trampling under foot the Son of God; he warns against treating the blood of the covenant as something less than holy; and he warns against insulting the Holy Spirit. Rejection of the Gospel is rejection of the Holy and Three-in-One God.

Then the author encourages his audience to remember their past faithfulness and God's promises for a glorious future.

All of this is given to strengthen the child of God to persevere until Jesus returns.

If you would like more information about the ministry of Fairlea Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church please visit https://arpchurchfairlea.org.
