Advocates of sin appeal to Jesus to remind Christians that He said "Judge not." Is that the end of the story? Are you never supposed to help a fellow sinner see his sin and avoid blindly walking into the pit? Of course not. Neither are you supposed to let your old Adam convince you of this error. Luke 6:36-42 is my sermon text for this sermon on the Fourth Sunday after Trinity.
There are two types of people in the world, those who repent of living a reckless life, and those who are angry that they are forgiven. These two groups are described in many and various ways. Here, we reflect on the difference between the repentant and the unrepentant. I preached this sermon to St. Mark Lutheran Church, Ferndale CA on the Third Sunday after Trinity (6/16/2024). The readings are Micah 7:18-20, 1 Timothy 1:12-20, and Luke 15:1-32.
