Happy Hobby! We talk about sports card collecting hoping to help collectors working with a limited budget. With a positive, family friendly mindset, we discuss hobby news and recent releases, while also looking back and talking about vintage cards and players from decades past. It's like opening a pack of cards with 11 with different sports card subjects! This podcast is essentially the read-out-loud version of the "Happy Hobby Newsletter," published every other Thursday on Substack. I’m David Gonos, former Fantasy Sports columnist at CBS Sports, Sports Illustrated and The Athletic. In 2021, I was inducted into the Fantasy Sports Writers Hall of Fame. (No, really, that exists!) I’m also a sports card collector working with a limited budget, so I create content based around just that! I got my YouTube channel going in 2021, and I’ve been posting two or three videos up each week ever since. It’s a fun, free, festive spot to talk about cards, collecting and … cards. I don’t take myself too seriously, so I beg that you don’t take me seriously either. We also do a ton of giveaways to subscribers!

gonos.substack.com

Each Happy Hobby Sports Card Podcast episode has a handful of great sports card subjects, helping sports card collectors working with limited budgets!

⚾🏈🏀 Interviewing Vintage Sports Cards Expert, Michael Salfino!

It’s tough to get all the questions out in just an hour with a vintage sports cards expert, like Michael Salfino from The Athletic, but we do our best!

At first, we discuss his background and how we connected, including our time together writing about baseball cards over at The Athletic. But we also knew each other from competing in Tout Wars before that, which is one of the most competitive Fantasy Baseball leagues in the world!

We also discuss Salfino’s picks for his “Elite 8” vintage players and his rankings of who he believes are the eight greatest Topps-era vintage players whose cards we should be collecting. (The origin of this discussion was because he found my video on “The Dandy Dozen,” where I ranked my 12 favorite players whose cards people should collect.)

The podcast stays true to helping out sports card collectors who are working with a limited budget! Michael shares the guts of an upcoming article, where he lists one card for 12 superstar vintage players (seven baseball players, three football players and two basketball players) valued around $100 that we should pick up.

You can read Michael’s articles on The Athletic, and you can check out his socials:

* X.com: @MichaelSalfino

* Bluesky: @MichaelSalfino

***Important Card-Collecting Articles on DavidGonos.com***

* Best Baseball Rookie Cards From Every Year Since 1941

* Best Basketball Rookie Cards From Every Year Since 1948

* Best Football Rookie Cards From Every Year Since 1956

* Best Hockey Rookie Cards From Every Year Since 1951

* 23 Best Sports Cards Supplies To Buy

Connect with David Gonos on:

* Facebook

* Twitter/X @DavidGonos

* Instagram @DavidGonos

* TikTok

* Link Tree

Email me: mailto:[email protected]

Have a #HappyHobby!

Podcast Music: "I dunno" by grapes - 2008 - Licensed under Creative Commons Attribution (3.0)

Get full access to Happy Hobby Sports Cards Newsletter For Collectors! at gonos.substack.com/subscribe
