I write poems and stories. I read poems and stories. Are they really for you? Of course! Everything I create is for me, for them and for you. xo, annie anniewood.com

anniewood.substack.com

Another quote I live by is from Lucille Ball:

I'm often asked, How do you create so much? and, Where does your talent come from? Let me share a simple truth: it's all about showing up.

I learned by doing. And doing. And doing. And doing some more.

Keep showing up for what excites you, what lights you up. Engage deeply with the activities that make you feel like you're living a meaningful life—intentionally, purposefully.

I aim to live a life of purpose, on purpose. -@artistanniewood

Here’s something I want you to remember: every creative act you undertake has significance.

Some might dismiss creativity as “extra.” It’s not extra - it’s the point!

Also, since I’m on a roll here… I never subscribed to the hobby idea. Why do we have a new/cutesy/flimsy word for doing something we enjoy? Like it’s somehow a separate thing. Like we step out of our lives to have a little treat. I say - it’s ALL your life. Even before I became a professional artist/writer/actor -I still didn’t call these things hobbies. I didn’t call them anything. I just followed the impulse to learn more about the things I loved.

Art, in all its forms, is how we connect with our deepest selves. It's how we combat isolation, how we vividly experience and remember our lives.

So, keep creating, keep exploring, and remember—your art matters, not just to you, but to all of us.

Amen.

XO,

Annie

In case you missed it last week, here’s the link to my guest appearance on Seinfeld writer Pat Hazell’s podcast, Captivity in Creativity.

Find it on all the podcast places above or click here!

You can also view and collect new original art here.

This is a public episode.

Become a paid subscriber and help fuel more stories for as little as seven bucks a month. Your support keeps the magic alive, and you’ll make me go like this: 💃🏻🥳🙌🏼🎉🕺🚀

Author’s Note:

What It Means to Be In Conversation with Another Poet:

Poets have a long tradition of responding to, riffing on, or being inspired by each other’s work. Sometimes, this is marked with the word after in the title—meaning the poem isn’t a copy or a rewrite, but rather a creative response, written in the poet’s own words. It might echo a theme, borrow a rhythm, or explore a similar feeling from a new angle.

Think of it like jazz improvisation—one musician plays a riff, and another picks it up, twists it, and makes it their own. Or like leaving a note in the margins of a beloved book, except instead of the margins, it’s a brand-new poem. It’s a way of keeping the artistic conversation alive, across time, space, and imagination.

Hope you enjoyed it!

More ways to enjoy and support my work:

Books on Amazon

Etsy Shop (signed books/prints/gifts/some art)

Art Gallery

Complete Art Catalogue

Thank you oodles of poodles for reading/watching/supporting/enjoying! 🐩🐩🐩

This is a public episode.
