In this episode of Kafe Sosial we revisit the theme of practicing social work in crisis situations. In a previous episode we heard about the closure of the Lachin corridor between Armenia and Nogorno Karabakh, also known as Artsakh. This episode described the blockade of Nogorno Karabakh and the challenges Armenian social workers faced trying to reach and help people trapped there. The day we published this episode in September 2023, and Azeri troops began bombing Nogorno Karabakh leading to a mass exodus of the local population, through the Lachin corridor to safety in Armenia. In this episode, we revisit the social workers of Armenia supporting a population in crisis,Brita Gjerstad , Associate Professor at UIS talks to social workers from Yerevan University in Armenia about what it is like to work in these crisis situations.
You can find a transcription here (pdf, opens in new tab).
EXTRA READING
Working with Refugees:a guide for SocialWorkers
https://www.startts.org.au/media/Resource-Working-with-Refugees-Social-Worker-Guide.pdf
Hear Maria ´s appeal here. https://fb.watch/mNqXlvMAat/?mibextid=Nif5oz
CONTRIBUTORS AND CREDITS
Content:
Brita Gerstad, Department of Social Work, University of Stavanger, Norway Artak Khachatryan, Department of Social Work, Yerevan State University, Armenia Liana Mkrtichyan, Department of Social Work, Yerevan State University, Armenia Marine Yarnaloyan, Department of Social Work, Yerevan State University, Armenia Sarah Hean, Department of Social Work, University of Stavanger, Norway
Editors: Sarah Hean University of Stavanger, Norway Wenche Hovland University of Stavanger, Norway
