<p>人間とクマの遭遇譚です。一昨年の「遠野新聞」にも掲載された話のようです。</p><p>実際にクマと対決して無事で済む人間はいません。人名「熊」も相まって、少しフィクションめいた面白さがあります。</p>

<p>『その三』で山にいた怪しい女を撃ち殺し、黒髪を持って帰ろうとして、山男らしき者に髪を取り戻された猟師「佐々木嘉兵衛」が再び登場します。</p><p>また、大谷地は、『その九』で菊池弥之助が谷底から「面白いぞー」と叫ぶ声を聞いた場所で、死助とは、『その三二』で猟師「隼人」に撃たれた鹿が死んだ場所の名です。</p><p>佐々木嘉兵衛はこの後も折に触れて登場します。</p>
