Ambulancechauffeur Annemiek Valent rijdt tijdens een nachtdienst nietsvermoedend naar een dodelijk auto-ongeluk. Het slachtoffer blijkt haar eigen 19-jarige zoon te zijn. En net wanneer Annemiek haar leven weer ’n beetje op orde krijgt, slaat het noodlot een tweede keer toe. Hoe leef je verder na zo’n groot trauma? Als ouder wil je alleen het beste voor je kind. Toch zijn er ook moeders die hun kinderen expres ziek maken. Nina Blom had zo’n moeder. Vanaf haar negende jaar wordt Nina thuis gehouden en ziek gemaakt. Ze komt in een rolstoel terecht, en belandt uiteindelijk voor lange tijd in het ziekenhuis.Een oplettende arts betekent haar redding. Wat begint met een vlekje, eindigt met een doodsbericht. Claudia van Deudekom staat nog midden in het leven wanneer ze de diagnose uitgezaaide huidkanker krijgt. Ze heeft hooguit nog een paar jaar te leven. Maar, tegen alle verwachtingen in is ze nu al enkele jaren tumorvrij. Hoe leef je als je denkt dat het einde nabij is? Wat doet het met een mens als het onvermijdelijke einde plotseling uitblijft?
