These dangerous times call for regional unity, but can Latin America unite against Trump threats? Co-hosts José Luis Granados Ceja and Kurt Hackbarth answer this question as they look at the events of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) summit last week and the threat posed by Ecuador’s Daniel Noboa following the questionable results announced Sunday night declaring him the winner of the presidential race. Plus a look at some controversies from inside Morena that have bubbled up to the surface; and in Loser and Haters we laugh at pseudo journalists once again falling for fake news.

Trump’s tariff plan turned out worse than everyone expected but somehow Mexico has come out unscathed. While close friends and allies of Trump were hit with devastating tariffs, Mexico was spared thanks to President Claudia Sheinbaum’s negotiating and now the country is poised to take advantage of its comparative advantage in the refashioned world of global commerce. However that’s not her whole plan, in the last episode Kurt and José Luis go through how the Mexican government intends to double down on the post-neoliberal “Plan Mexico” to further develop the country’s food and energy sovereignty, while also making major public investments and continuing social spending. Plus a conversation on Sheinbaum’s special connection to Michoacán, Mexico’s justice plan for the Purepecha people and how it can serve as an example of reparations for Indigenous people.

…Who needs enemies? In this second episode from their brand spanking-new studio space, Kurt and José Luis discuss Claudia Sheinbaum’s taking one for the team by meeting with Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem in the final stop of Noem’s “cringe tour” through Latin America. They also discuss the media attempt to play up China’s supposed pivot away from Mexico and the extent to which any of the rumors of a distancing between Mexico and China have any truth to them. Mexico’s new Interoceanic Corridor linking the Atlantic and Pacific is now open for business, shaking up the geopolitical chessboard, and in the podcast’s much-loved “Losers and Haters” section, the hosts expose the pro-Trump account that is throwing the most shade at Mexico.
