肝病是台灣的國病。據行政院衛生福利部統計報告指出，每一年約有五千人死於肝細胞癌，而每年死於肝硬化者約有四千人之多。在衛生福利部的十大死因統計中，因慢性肝病、肝硬化及肝細胞癌死亡者，均位居前位，所以肝病也可說是台灣最常見的本土病。 有效治療肝病的最佳方式，惟有早期診斷、積極就醫、定期追蹤及適當的治療，這才是面對肝炎、肝硬化、肝癌等疾病威脅的最佳策略。而對於肝病的研究、宣導與防治，則是本土醫療相關人員無可旁騖的職責與使命，為此台灣肝臟學術文教基金會以此任為己任，不定期舉辦免費肝病篩檢活動，目的在於協助民眾瞭解自身的健康狀況，以提高民眾對於及時治療的重視，亦積極地前往醫療資源較貧乏的地區，為當地民眾實施血液生化篩檢，並於慢性肝炎高盛行率的區域，增加腹部超音波檢驗，輔以肝炎防治衛生教育講座，宣導正確防治觀念，藉此讓民眾更加重視健康的重要性，及時就醫才能最有效地防止肝臟疾病的持續蔓延。 有鑑於肝病猖獗，高雄醫學院於1985年正式成立肝膽胰內科，並由張文宇教授擔任主任，一直積極從事肝病的研究及拓展肝病的防治工作，為台灣消化系醫學界之創舉。 張文宇教授並於1999年號召社會賢達成立「台灣肝臟學術文教基金會」，這幾年來一方面致力於走進社會，服務基層，加強宣導預防重於治療的觀念，另一方面協助高雄醫學大學附設醫院肝膽胰內科的團隊進行更深入之肝病研究。 本會以鼓勵及促進肝臟疾病之教育防治及研究為宗旨： 教育病患與大眾有關肝臟疾病之認識，治療及防治之宣傳。 提供肝臟疾病篩檢服務，主動關懷基層社區與弱勢族群。 鼓勵及培育國內相關研究人員從事肝臟相關疾病之防治及研究工作。 提供基層醫療院所與相關學術單位肝臟疾病知識的交流平台，以增進整體醫療水平。 -- Hosting provided by <a href="https://www.soundon.fm/" target="_blank">SoundOn</a>
