Who gets to compete? Since the beginning of women’s sports, there has been a struggle over who qualifies for the women’s category. Tested follows the unfolding story of elite female runners who have been told they can no longer race as women, because of their biology. As the Olympics approach, they face hard choices: take drugs to lower their natural testosterone levels, give up their sport entirely, or fight. To understand how we got here, Host Rose Eveleth (they/them) traces the surprising, 100-year history of sex testing.

Sex and relationships are intimate — and sometimes intimidating to talk about. Embodied is a weekly podcast from North Carolina Public Radio WUNC hosted by Anita Rao. The podcast guides us on an exploration of our brains and our bodies that touches down in taboo territory. Fifteen years ago Anita took Women's Studies 101 on a whim … and to this day, she still doesn't have an answer to the question: what is masculinity? In further pursuit of some clarity, she talks with a trans man and a non-binary person about what's possible when we take a more gender-fluid approach to manhood. The two share where their own beliefs about where gender comes from and how they're building a more expansive definition of masculinity in their own lives.
