<p>Dr Catherine Mummery oversees novel therapeutics at the UCL Dementia Research Centre and is also a Consultant Neurologist at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery.</p> <p>She is <a href="https://www.ucl.ac.uk/news/2023/apr/first-gene-silencing-drug-alzheimers-disease-shows-promise">leading a world-first trial</a> involving a ‘gene silencing’ drug (BIIB080) that has shown promise in safely and successfully lowering levels of the harmful tau protein known to cause Alzheimer's disease.</p> <p>Alongside her work in finding new treatments, Dr Mummery is also working on a groundbreaking trial that would enable MRI scans to be completed in a fraction of the time they currently are.</p> <p><a href="https://www.ucl.ac.uk/brain-sciences/dementia-ucl-priority" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferer">Learn more about UCL's interdisciplinary approach to dementia here</a>.</p>
