私はオーストラリアのブリスベンの小学校で日本語を教えているわけですが、子供たちのやんちゃ、わんぱく、無邪気な行動には日々手を焼いています。そんな子どもたちに腹を立てたり、怒ったりすることもよくありました。しかし、そうすると後は気分が良くなく、後悔したりもしました。そんな中、ある別の考え方を応用したところ、そうした自分の腹立たしさが収まってきたのです。今回はその秘密のとっておきの考え方をシェアしたいと思います。子育てや教育の現場で、子どもたちと関わって、イライラしてらっしゃる方々も多いと思いますので、何かの参考になれば幸いです。

今回は、私が実際に日本語教育の実践の中で体験した「小さな奇跡」についてお話ししたいと思います。キーワードは言語ゲームです。この概念は哲学者のヴィトゲンシュタインさんが提唱した概念です。これを哲学的に解説することは、私の能力を超えるのですが(笑)、頑張って説明すると、この考え方は、普遍性や客観性や本質などの基礎づけの考え方を一旦脇において、個別具体的な文脈や状況の中で展開される「ふるまい」に焦点を当てた考え方です。日本語教育の文脈で言ったら、文法とか語句の定義とか、そうした共通性よりも、個別具体的な状況においてどのような言葉が使われるのかというところを直接試行錯誤しながら学ぶことができるわけです。そしてその結果教室の中で起きた「小さな奇跡」とは？どうぞお楽しみに。
