by YETI WALKS INTO BASECAMP
Join us, Wesley "Yeti Legs" and Marie "Basecamp" Black on the YETI WALKS INTO BASECAMP: Talking. Thru. Hiking. Podcast, where we discuss all things in the wonderful world of hiking. Each episode will cover various hiking topics, the 181 days we spent on the PCT, interviews with fellow hikers/trail angels, or even chats with gear junkies. We are a married couple who love hiking and ultra running. In 2022, we sold everything to hike the Pacific Crest Trail with a continuous footpath, followed by completing the TMB. Since then, we've hiked even more long trails. Welcome!

<p><strong>Episode Summary</strong>: In this episode we talk through our first hiking-related book review of Glen Van Peski's work, take less. do more. SURPRISING LIFE LESSONS IN GENEROSITY, GRATITUDE, AND CURIOSITY FROM AN ULTRALIGHT BACKPACKER.</p><p>For almost 2 hours, we were lucky enough to have Glen on our show to cover a few of his anecdotes from the ultralight backpacking universe, but also some more introspective insights on life, having gratitude and giving to others, while also prioritizing the needs of our loved ones and ourselves. Glen has quite the tale to tell, including how to better stay connected to those you've met/think about often, his stunning wife, living a minimalist lifestyle, and his harrowing friend that saved Glen's life. We'd love to have him back for a part 2 to cover more of his ultralight hacks, but until then, here's enough content to wet your whistle.</p><p><br /></p><p><strong>Keywords</strong>: ultralight, backpacking, minimalism, book, book review</p><p><br /></p><p>Links:</p><p><a href="https://www.glenvanpeski.com/" target="_blank" rel="ugc noopener noreferrer">Glen's Website</a></p><p><a href="https://www.instagram.com/gvanpeski/" target="_blank" rel="ugc noopener noreferrer">Glen's Instagram</a></p><p><a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/glenvanpeski/" target="_blank" rel="ugc noopener noreferrer">Glen's LinkdIn</a></p><p><br /></p><p>~Created, hosted, and produced by Yeti Legs and Basecamp (aka Wesley and Marie Black)</p><p>~Edited by Aj Jones</p><p> ~Intro and Outro track is Appalachian trail by “The Fire Once Lost”, an American/Bluegrass artist from Denmark. </p><p>Check out the <a href="https://open.spotify.com/album/73S9bS4M3Rfvl5rVyenNLu?si=xMwDPi2vTF6r3iSXn7yETg" target="_blank" rel="ugc noopener noreferrer">album</a>, and their <a href="https://www.instagram.com/thefireoncelost/" target="_blank" rel="ugc noopener noreferrer">IG page</a>.</p><p><br /></p><p><strong>Yeti Legs’ and Basecamp’s Socials:</strong></p><p>Podcast IG: <a href="https://www.instagram.com/yetiwalksintobasecamp?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet&igsh=ZDNlZDc0MzIxNw==" target="_blank" rel="ugc noopener noreferrer">@yetiwalksintobasecamp</a></p><p>Our Instagram: <a href="https://www.instagram.com/theginger_and_thejoy/" target="_blank" rel="ugc noopener noreferrer">@theginger_and_thejoy</a></p><p>Our Patreon:<strong> </strong><a href="https://patreon.com/user?u=87729722&utm_medium=clipboard_copy&utm_source=copyLink&utm_campaign=creatorshare_creator&utm_content=join_link" target="_blank" rel="ugc noopener noreferrer">Yeti Walks Into Basecamp Patreon</a><strong></strong></p><p>Linktree: <a href="https://linktr.ee/thegingerandthejoy" target="_blank" rel="ugc noopener noreferrer">@thegingerandthejoy</a></p><p>Trek Blog: <a href="https://thetrek.co/author/wesley-black/" target="_blank" rel="ugc noopener noreferrer">Wesley Black</a></p>

<p>We wanted to take a short break from our PCT saga and feel like the title and cover say it all for this week's episode! This episode covers all things Loba, our husky. We discuss our relationship and how it has become oh so much better with her, some recent hiking shenanigans including a tumble over a waterfall, how she helps us sleep at night, and so much more. Thanks for listening.</p><p><br></p><p>~Created, hosted, and produced by Yeti Legs and Basecamp (aka Wesley and Marie Black)</p><p>~Edited by Aj Charlotte Royal</p><p> </p><p>Intro and Outro track is Appalachian trail by “The Fire Once Lost”, an American/Bluegrass artist from Denmark. </p><p>Check out the <a href="https://open.spotify.com/album/73S9bS4M3Rfvl5rVyenNLu?si=xMwDPi2vTF6r3iSXn7yETg" target="_blank" rel="ugc noopener noreferrer">album</a>, and their <a href="https://www.instagram.com/thefireoncelost/" target="_blank" rel="ugc noopener noreferrer">IG page</a>.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Yeti Legs’ and Basecamp’s Socials:</strong></p><p>Podcast IG: <a href="https://www.instagram.com/yetiwalksintobasecamp?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet&igsh=ZDNlZDc0MzIxNw==" target="_blank" rel="ugc noopener noreferrer">@yetiwalksintobasecamp</a></p><p>Our Instagram: <a href="https://www.instagram.com/theginger_and_thejoy/" target="_blank" rel="ugc noopener noreferrer">@theginger_and_thejoy</a></p><p>Our Patreon:<strong> </strong><a href="https://patreon.com/user?u=87729722&utm_medium=clipboard_copy&utm_source=copyLink&utm_campaign=creatorshare_creator&utm_content=join_link" target="_blank" rel="ugc noopener noreferrer">Yeti Walks Into Basecamp Patreon</a><strong></strong></p><p>Linktree: <a href="https://linktr.ee/thegingerandthejoy" target="_blank" rel="ugc noopener noreferrer">@thegingerandthejoy</a></p><p>Trek Blog: <a href="https://thetrek.co/author/wesley-black/" target="_blank" rel="ugc noopener noreferrer">Wesley Black</a></p>

<p>In this episode of Yeti Walks Into Basecamp: Talking. Thru. Hiking. we cover week 16 on the Pacific Crest Trail where we FINALLY hit the midpoint of the PCT, that's 2653/2 = 1326.5. Most of the hiking felt like it was in burn zones, but there was still greenery out there, somewhere, over yonder. Yeti picks up a baby squirrel and skips lunch before a massive climb and just about crashes, then chugs teriyaki sauce. We do some early morning hiking through Lassen Volcanic NP and then barely make it to the Hat Creek RV Park for some cold drinks and snacks before it rains, go figure. Oh, and Yeti went fishing for bears! In our Environmental Corner we discuss gray/grey wolves (Canus lupus) and the Endangered Species Act of 1973 alongside what our current administration is looking to change about it. And on a happier note, we finish with a squeaky clean, hot off the recording studio song from The Fire Once Lost: Someone Else Just For You. Give it a listen!!!</p><p><br /></p><p><strong>Topics:</strong> PCT, Pacific Crest Trail, stay current, environment, ESA, wolves</p><p><br /></p><p><strong>Links:</strong></p><p><a href="https://earthjustice.org/press/2025/national-endangered-species-coalition-responds-to-republican-led-congressional-attacks-on-endangered-species-act-and-gray-wolves" target="_blank" rel="ugc noopener noreferrer">Earth Justice: ESA/Gray Wolves</a></p><p><br /></p><p>~Created, hosted, and produced by Yeti Legs and Basecamp (aka Wesley and Marie Black)</p><p>~Edited by Aj Jones</p><p> </p><p>Intro and Outro track is Appalachian trail by “The Fire Once Lost”, an American/Bluegrass artist from Denmark. </p><p>Check out the <a href="https://open.spotify.com/album/73S9bS4M3Rfvl5rVyenNLu?si=xMwDPi2vTF6r3iSXn7yETg" target="_blank" rel="ugc noopener noreferrer">album</a>, and their <a href="https://www.instagram.com/thefireoncelost/" target="_blank" rel="ugc noopener noreferrer">IG page</a>.</p><p><br /></p><p>More on his new song release:</p><p>Songwriter : Anders Duus<br />Vocals, guitars, dobro, mandolin, drums : Anders Duus<br />Upright Bass : Mark Kühn Jørgensen<br />Mix / Master : Anders Duus<br />Read More : <a href="http://www.thefireoncelost.com/" target="_blank" rel="ugc noopener noreferrer">Www.TheFireOnceLost.com</a></p><p><br /></p><p><strong>Yeti Legs’ and Basecamp’s Socials:</strong></p><p>Podcast IG: <a href="https://www.instagram.com/yetiwalksintobasecamp?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet&igsh=ZDNlZDc0MzIxNw==" target="_blank" rel="ugc noopener noreferrer">@yetiwalksintobasecamp</a></p><p>Our Instagram: <a href="https://www.instagram.com/theginger_and_thejoy/" target="_blank" rel="ugc noopener noreferrer">@theginger_and_thejoy</a></p><p>Our Patreon:<strong> </strong><a href="https://patreon.com/user?u=87729722&utm_medium=clipboard_copy&utm_source=copyLink&utm_campaign=creatorshare_creator&utm_content=join_link" target="_blank" rel="ugc noopener noreferrer">Yeti Walks Into Basecamp Patreon</a><strong></strong></p><p>Linktree: <a href="https://linktr.ee/thegingerandthejoy" target="_blank" rel="ugc noopener noreferrer">@thegingerandthejoy</a></p><p>Trek Blog: <a href="https://thetrek.co/author/wesley-black/" target="_blank" rel="ugc noopener noreferrer">Wesley Black</a></p>
