In this episode of Your Natural Dog with Angela Ardolino, we’re joined by Dr. Erin Holder, founder of the Veterinary Compassion Project. After experiencing compassion fatigue firsthand, Dr. Holder transitioned her career to focus on supporting veterinarians and animal care professionals struggling with burnout and compassion fatigue. A 2019 Centers for Disease Control study revealed that veterinarians are between two to four times more likely to die by suicide than the general population, highlighting a growing crisis in the veterinary community. Dr. Holder discusses the emotional toll faced by veterinarians and how her project provides resources, tools, and restorative retreats to foster well-being in this vital profession.

Episode Recap:

The Veterinary Compassion Project and its mission

Understanding compassion fatigue and burnout in veterinarians

Why veterinary schools should address mental health early in education

Recognizing the signs of compassion fatigue and burnout

The importance of having compassion for ourselves as veterinary professionals

Burnout and suicide in the veterinary community and its impact on the profession

How the veterinarian shortage affects not only pets but also food production

Tools and resources from the Veterinary Compassion Project to empower veterinarians

How pet parents can support their veterinarians

Tips for dealing with compassion fatigue and burnout

Announcing the VCP Restorative Retreat 2025

The critical role of boundaries in avoiding compassion fatigue and burnout

Use code RADIO for 15% off your first order at https://cbddoghealth.com

Use code MYCO10 for 10% off your order of https://mycodog.com

Note: Like all discount codes, they don't last furever!

Episode Resources:

Veterinary Compassion Project

VCP Restorative Retreat 2025

VCP Resources for Veterinarians

Have a question about your pet that you want answered on the podcast?
For as long as she can remember Michelle has held a deep connection with animals. Her childhood revolved around her relationship with her horses, cats & beloved dog Sparky. She knew her calling was to help animals & graduated with a bachelors of science in Veterinary Technology from Michigan State University's School of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. She immediately saw the gap that strictly conventional medicine left in our pets' care & began educating herself on holistic modalities. In 2020 she left clinical practice to open a natural pet market and focus full time on a holistic nutritional approach to our pets care. During this transition she had her own health crisis which led her on a deeply transformational emotional and energetic journey. Michelle recognized that tapping into the unique energetic needs of the body and soul is also vital to our pets health & that this would be her calling to help our pets on a deeper level. She is excited to offer Intuitive Biofeedback sessions. It has been beyond rewarding to see so many pets flourish & for their owners to have a sense of relief leaving a session with clear guidelines on how they can better meet their pets nutritional & emotional needs. Michelle lives in Vermont with her 3 Mutts, 4 Cats, her children Henry & Franki and partner Tony.

Episode recap:

What is animal communication?

When did you discover you had a sense about your pets that others didn’t?

Do you feel like we as humans downplay the emotional relationship we have with our pets?

Why is communicating with our pets important?

How does your background in veterinary medicine assist you in your knowledge about communication with animals?

What is an intuitive biofeedback session?

How have these sessions helped pet parents and their pets?
In this episode of Your Natural Dog, Angela Ardolino and Carter Easler, CBD Dog Health's Director of Education, delve into the complexities of CBD industry regulation and the role of the National Animal Supplement Council (NASC). Angela and Carter dive into the NASC’s stance on broad spectrum CBD and how their funded research is not up to date with the hemp industry, highlighting how full spectrum hemp has already been proven through long-term studies to be both safer and more potent. The conversation also covers the NASC’s attempts to change industry standard definitions, the therapeutic potential and safety of THC for pets, and the impact of rescheduling cannabis on the CBD industry. Tune in to learn about the ongoing debate over CBD standards and regulations in the pet supplement industry, and why nature’s own remedies, like full spectrum hemp, can’t be patented, and can’t be beat.

Episode Recap:

What is the NASC?

FDA doesn’t regulate pet supplements

Broad Spectrum vs Full Spectrum

NASC trying to change industry standard definitions

Entourage effect

The Problem with the NASC’s CBD Research

NASC is far behind the hemp industry’s expertise

Studies show Full Spectrum Hemp is safer & more potent

Therapeutic potential & safety of THC for pets

The impact of rescheduling cannabis on the CBD industry

You can’t patent nature

CBD COAs - Certificates of Analysis

Use code RADIO for 15% off your first order at https://cbddoghealth.com

Use code MYCO10 for 10% off your order of https://mycodog.com

Note: Like all discount codes, they don't last furever!

If you have a question about your pet you’d like answered on the podcast, email us at [email protected].

Episode Resources:

More on Full Spectrum Hemp Extract

Is THC safe for pets?

NASC Broad Spectrum Study

Studies on Full Spectrum Hemp

Follow CBD Dog Health on Facebook and Instagram

Have a question about your pet that you want answered on the podcast?
